Release Your Gift

Release your gift

Did you know that there are over 7 billion people living on the plant? What is mind-blowing about that statistic is that none of us have the same fingerprints. When the Lord made us male and female in our mother’s womb, we were all uniquely made according to His divine plan. The word of God says in Jeremiah 1:4 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”. No two people have the same identical fingerprints which would help to identify who a person is to someone else. Two people depending upon their ages could both weight the same and maybe even be the same height. However, by the wisdom of God, the Lord did not make us to laugh exactly the same or shed tears in the same emotional way. You cannot even ask someone to think for you when you were created with the ability to think for yourself. A person does not have the ability to walk in your shoes because you have your own journey of life that you must experience for yourself.

Now the same way that the Lord has made us different from one another, He has also given us a gift that is customized to who we are as a person. For some of us at an early age, we discover that we have a gift which enables us to do certain things better than others. There are others over a period of time that began to learn about their gift and use it mainly on their jobs but not in other areas of their life. On the other hand, I believe there is the rest of us that believe we have a gift but we have not come to understand what that gift is. Now there are three reasons why the Lord has given us a gift to use in this life. The first reason why the Lord has given us a gift is so we can identify what that gift is in our life. The second reason why the Lord has given us a gift is so we can learn how to develop our gift in our life. Finally, the third reason why the Lord has given us a gift is so we can learn how to release our gift in this life.

A man’s gift makes room for him,
And brings him before great men (Proverbs 18:16).

Identify your gift

The first reason why the Lord has given us a gift is so we can identify what that gift is in our life. To be able to identify our gift, we must first answer the question who has God made us to be. People in life try and discover who they are in all different types of ways. Some people try to discover who they are by their careers, their degrees, or by how much money they make. There are other people who try and discover who they are by becoming a part of something that is bigger than themselves. A person may seek to find who they are by joining the military or becoming a part of a political party such as being a democrat, republican, or an independent. Even in the church, men and women try and find who they are by the titles they are called by or the positions they have appointed themselves to have. However, the only true way we can come to understand who we are is to go to the one who created them and that person is God. A good example of this principle is to a manufacturer to understand the product he or she has made. When you began to put the Lord first in your life and ask Him to reveal who you are, He in His timing will help you to identify who you are and the gifts He has given you.

Another reason why it is important for us to understand who God has called us to be is that we can be delivered from wasting precious time trying to be like someone else. When a person does not know who they are they will focus on trying to be like someone else in most cases is because they are impressed by their success. Now let me say there is nothing wrong with admiring what someone else has accomplished like a Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, or Derek Jeter. However, our appreciation for their greatness should never cause us to minimize who God has called us to be in the Kingdom of God. The word of God says in Psalms 139:16 “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be”. What is the gift that the Lord has given you my sister? What is the gift that the Lord has given you my brother? The Lord has not called you and me to go to different conferences spending all our money trying to find out what we are gifted to do. However, the same amount of time we invest spending to get to know someone we are attracted to, we should be willing to invest the time to allow the Lord to reveal who we are and the gift He has placed inside us.

Develop your gift

The second reason why the Lord has given us a gift is so we can learn how to develop our gift in our life. In our society we live in, most people either have to put on or lose a certain amount of weight because of the type of work they do. This is true for sports athletes, people in law enforcement, and our emergency first responders. A person in one of these professions must develop and build up their body by doing a lot of training, exercise, and working out in the gym. As the person works on their body, the equipment that they use will cause them to feel resistance in the area that they are focused on. The harder the person works through the discomfort of their workout, the more they are able to develop and become stronger in their body. However, if the person starts to believe that the pain they are feeling during or after their training is too much, they may choose to stop and give up. The person decision to quit will cause their body not to developed and not meet the physical requirements they must be at.

The same way this principle is true when it comes to keeping our bodies in shape, it is true for us to learn how to properly develop our gift. The Lord will help us to develop our gift by first working on developing our character. Character is who we are in the dark when no one else sees us but the Lord. If our character is strong we will know how to properly release our gift in a way that will add value to the life others. However, if our character is flawed we can cause more harm to others by the things we say, the things we do, while having a foul attitude. I do believe that the Lord does have a season for our lives where He keeps us in a place of confinement. The place of confinement could be with one company for over seven years and never be given an opportunity for advancement with that company. The place of confinement could be living in a particular house and neighborhood and the neighbors challenge you to grow in the fruit of the spirit of patience (Galatians 5:22-23). The place of confinement could be being planted in one ministry for over twenty-five years which the Lord needs to develop you as a person. When the time comes for your gift to make room for you, your character will be able to keep you in the places that the Lord open doors for you to walk through.

Release your gift

Finally, the third reason why the Lord has given us a gift is so we can learn how to release our gift in this life. There are two important dates in our life that we do not have control over. The first date is the day of our birth which the Lord in His wisdom determines when would happen. The second date is the date of our death or transition from this life into eternity. We are all going to spend eternity somewhere, the question is where will we choose to spend eternity. We can choose to spend eternity with Our Heavenly Father by accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior by asking Him to live within our hearts. However, we can also spend our life separated from God by rejecting God’s plan of salvation and His Son. When the day of our death comes, the question that we must try and answer before it happens is how do we want to be remembered by others? The dash in the middle of our date of birth and the date of our sunset will speak volume how people and this world will remember us. Our dash on our gravestone will testify to others that we either buried or release the gift that the Lord deposited on the inside us.

Your gift was not given to you so that you can do with it as you please. Your gift was not given to you by the Lord so that you can release in the marketplace and just make a financial profit from it. Your gift was not given to you so that you choose to not release it and keep buried where no one else can benefit from it. However, the Lord gave you a gift so that it could bless the body of Christ, bring your before great men. The word of God says in 2 Timothy 1:6 “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands”. The Lord says that the day and the hour has come to an end for my people to stop sitting down and refusing to release their gifts in the House of the Lord. The day and the hour has come to an end for those hiding in the shadows and now to come into the light of my Presence and release their gifts. It is time for the Church to arise and go forth in power of the Lord and my kingdom authority. The Lord is declaring that this is the day which the Church must demonstrate my power, my character and my love so people will know you are my disciples (John 13:35).
