When a man makes or finds himself a man cave he may do it for a couple of reasons. He may make himself a man cave where he can have a place of enjoyment and fun. He may also have one so he can hang out with the guys to watch football games or play online video games for hours. A man may also create a man cave for himself so he can have that special place so he and his wife can spend time alone together away from the kids to rekindle the fire they once had. Finally, a man may have his man cave so he can have some time to get away from others because he has had a hard day at work. He may turn on some jazz music, relax drinking a nice glass of wine and using that time to wind himself down from a stressful week.
Unfortunately, sometimes men go into their man caves for other reasons that is not good for them. A man may go into his cave so that he can use it as a place of escape from someone or something. He may also go into his cave because he feels emotionally drained but when he comes out to his wife and children he knows he is no emotionally good to them. A man goes into his cave because he does not know how to spend time alone with God and not knowing where he is in his life. However, there are three reasons why the Lord does not want us as men stuck in our man caves. The first reason why the Lord does not want you to be stuck in your man cave is that he wants you to beware of the things that can drive you into the cave. The second reason why the Lord does not want us as men to be stuck in our man caves is that His presence can meet us in the cave to bring us out. Finally, a third reason why the Lord does not want you and me to be stuck in our man cave is because He has more work for us to do and more lives to impact for His Kingdom.
Then the angel of the Lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, the journey ahead will be too much for you.”
So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Sinai, the mountain of God. There he came to a cave, where he spent the night. But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah? (1 Kings 19:7-9)”
What drives you into your cave?
The first reason why the Lord does not want you to be stuck in your man cave is that he wants you to beware of the things that are driving you into your cave. When you look at the circumstances surrounding the Prophet Elijah, there were clearly three things that drove him to spend the night in a cave. The first thing which drove the Prophet into the cave was the overwhelming fear that he felt when he heard the news that Jezebel wanted to have him killed. The second thing that drove him into the cave was the feeling of exhaustion that he felt from traveling on a journey to a destination which he did not know where he was headed. Finally, a third reason why Elijah ended up in a cave was that he had become discouraged in him seeing the nation of Israel had not fully turned back to the Lord as their God but instead continued to worship the false god Baal.
The question that I ask you my brother is what has been driving you into your man cave? Has it been fear which has caused you to become afraid of the things which people had said about you? Is it the fear of what people have said out of retaliation against what the Lord has had you to do on His behalf? Are the feeling of exhaustion or discouragement driving you into your man cave because the outcome which you were expecting did not turn into the results that you thought would happen and now things have gotten worse? Well my brother if any of those things have driven you into your cave, the Lord wants you to know that He is the greater one on the inside and He will contend with those things that are contending against you (1 John 4:4 & Isaiah 49:25). The Lord is still able to give power to the faint and those that are weary, He is able to increase their strength so that they can mount up with eagles wings and soar about the circumstances that at once kept you down (Isaiah 40:31).
God will meet you in your cave
The second reason why the Lord does not want us as men to be stuck in our man caves is that His presence can meet us in the cave to bring us out. When the Lord asked Elijah why he was in the cave, Elijah responded by saying how he felt that the people not only rejected the Lord, he felt he was all alone and he feared for his life. The people of the Lord had broken God’s covenant, they had torn down the Lord’s altars and slain His prophets. The Lord then instructed him to stand at the entrance of the cave and how He would reveal Himself to Elijah. The Prophet Elijah would learn that to experience the Lord’s presence in a fresh way which would not be from him experiencing the wind, him feeling a great earthquake or by fire. However, the Prophet Elijah would meet the presence of the Lord at the entrance of that cave through the soft whisper of the Lord voice asking him the question “Elijah what are you doing here” (1 Kings 19:10-13)?
Sometimes the problem with us as men when we go into our man caves, we may come out physically after being in there for hours but emotionally we are still are stuck in our caves. We can be stuck in the cave because we feel we are the only one going through something and no one can really understand how we feel so we isolate ourselves and suffer in silence. The Lord wants you to know man of God that He is able to meet you in your cave and to bring you completely out. As a person, you are not just flesh and blood but you have a body, you possess a soul and the true you is your spirit. The enemy cannot do anything about your spirit once you have become born again and you have surrendered your life to Him as Lord. However, the part of you that the enemy wants to keep stuck in the cave cutting yourself and refusing to be restrained for your good is your soul. The enemy wants to have you bound like the man at the place of Gadarenes who refused to live with those who loved him but chose to live among the dead in the tombs (Mark 1:1-5). However, today the presence of the Lord has come to set you free my brother so that you are not just free in your spirit but you are free in your emotions to express them the correct way that a man should to his wife and his children.
The Lord wants you out of your cave
Finally, a third reason why the Lord does not want you and me to be stuck in our man caves because He still has more work for us and more people lives to impact for His Kingdom. The Lord let His Prophet know that despite all what had happen so far, He still had more for Elijah to do. The Lord let Elijah know that he was not the only person alone that devoted himself to Jehovah but there were still over seven thousand other people who had not bowed to the false god called Baal. The Lord let Elijah know it was not over and He wanted the Prophet to anoint Hazel who one day become king of Syria. The Lord let Elijah know it was not over and He wanted him to anoint Jehu to be king of Israel and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah to be the one who would replace him to be the prophet of Israel (1 Kings 19:14-18).
You have to come out of your man cave my brother because the Lord still has more work for you to do. The word of God says in Philippians 1:6,“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ”. Despite how discouraged you may feel my brother at this moment, the Lord says come out your cave because it is not over for you. Despite how disappointed you may be in yourself or in people, the Lord says come out of your cave because it is not over for you. Despite how much you feel you are ready to walk away and throw in the towel, the Lord says come out of your cave because it is not over for you. The Lord says to you man of God, to lift up your head oh ye gates and be ye lifted up you everlasting doors. The Lord says to you, I am the King of glory and I am greater than what you are facing because I am Lord strong and mighty in battle (Psalms 24:7-10).
