Tell Your Story
All of us have testimonies that we can share with others about what the Lord has done for us in our lives. One testimony or story that I would like to share with you how the Lord, kept me from being stranded in another state for hours. It was during the Christmas holiday that I was traveling back home to New York after spending Christmas with my family in Detroit, Michigan. Back in those days I would travel from Michigan to New York by Greyhound Bus which the trip to about almost twenty-one hours.
While the Greyhound traveled on the highway it would make a scheduled meal stop in Milesburg, Pennsylvania at in the early morning hours. When we arrived at our meal stop it allowed people to go to the bathroom, get some food and be off the bus for about forty-five minutes. Once the meal break was over, the bus driver would call for all passengers to get back on the bus and to continue to our journey to New York City.
However, after I finished eating during the meal break, I started playing video games while I waited for the bus driver announcement for us to return back to the bus. I got so involved playing the video game I paid no attention that bus driver made the call for us to get the bus. Before I knew it the bus had left me with all my belonging still on the bus in the middle of a blizzard. I franticly asked the store attendant when the next bus would come and to my shock I learned that it would be almost eight hours before the next bus would come to get me home.
You asked Elder Strong how did you get home and how did I recover all your belonging? Well through the Lord’s favor I asked a truck driver to take me the next bus stop which was the closes to New York. The problem with the request that I made to the truck driver was him having a passenger in his truck could have cost him his job with his company. However, the truck driver saw that I had no way of getting home agreed to let me ride with him to the next bus stop. We traveled throughout the night in a blizzard which there was minimum visibility and made driving very difficult to driver. However, after several hours, the truck driver was able to get me to a connecting bus station which got me to Port Authority and I would later make it home and recover my belonging the next day.
Now are three important truths that I would like to lift up from my experience that I pray would encourage you to know that the Lord will bring you through your circumstances. The first truth that I would encourage you to know when you are going through dark moments in your life is that the Lord will turn your storm into a testimony you can share with others. The second important truths that I would encourage you to hold onto is that the Lord will have you and me to step out in faith into the waters of our impossibilities. The final important truth that I would encourage you to know is that the Lord will use the things that happen in our lives for all men to know that the Lord is Mighty and we should reverence the Lord in all the Earth.
And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean these stones?
Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.
For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever (Joshua 4:21-24).
Twelve men and twelve stones
The first truth that I would encourage you to know when you are going through dark moments in your life is that the Lord will turn your storm into a testimony you can share with others. In chapters three and four of the book of Joshua the Lord instructed Joshua to have the priests to carry the ark of the covenant into the Jordan River and the waters would part so all of the people could passed over. Once all of the people had passed over the Jordan River on dry land, one man representing each of the twelve tribes of Israel would take a stone from the Jordan to build as a memorial. The word of God lets us know that these men did not hold a position of influence or leadership but they were ordinary men who were willing to make themselves available to be used by the Lord for His greater purpose. The stone that each man carried to build the memorial was probably not easy to carry but yet they still push through in carrying their stone so their children would know about the God’s they served.
Just as Israel had the responsibility of sharing why the memorial of stones were a witness for the generations to learn about their God, we also have a responsibility to share our testimonies of what God has done for us. When the Children of Israel were preparing themselves to cross the Jordan River, the officers instructed the people that they would travel in a direction they had not gone before. As they moved out and follow the ark of the covenant that the priests were carried, they had to follow the ark from a distance of a half of mile (Joshua 3:1-4). The message we must take from the scriptures is that obedience to the Lord is critical which will help us to pass through the waters of our impossible circumstances. We must learn that partial obedience is not true obedience, however partial obedience is nothing more than disobedience. The testimony that we share must also be a message that we are not live by details but we as the just must live by faith (Romans 1:17).
The feet of the priests in the Jordan
The second important truth that I would encourage you to hold onto is that the Lord will have you and me to step out in faith into the waters of our impossibilities. In Joshua 4:23, the word of God says that “For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over”: The Lord had Joshua to remind the people that as He parted the Red Sea for their forefathers, He would also would part the Jordan for them. The Lord had Moses to stretch his hands over the sea and the waters opened up so Israel could cross over on dry ground. No part of Moses body made contact with the Red Sea but it required his obedience to turn his back on his enemies and to stretch out what the Lord told him to do. However, when the priests of the Lord followed the instructions of the Lord given to them by Joshua, the Jordan waters parted because their feet made contact with the waters.
What is the Lord saying to you and me through the record of Israel and the priests’ feet making contact with the Jordan waters? The Lord wants us to step in the waters of our impossibilities which has caused us to feel will never be overcome. He does not wants us listening to our fears which are just the false evidence appearing to be real. The report that the Lord wants us to believe is the report of the Lord according to Isaiah 53.1. The bills that are long overdue and declare you will never be paid, God wants you to step into the waters and watch Him part them. The Jordan River which was parted for Israel and the people walking on dry ground made no sense in the natural realm. However, our God can still do the supernatural for us so our ground is not muddy but it is a firm foundation which we stand on which is Christ our Rock. In Psalms 37:23 the word of God says that “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way”.
That all people might know
A few months ago Verizon released a commercial which promoted their products and services by having a person talk to a group of people. As the person touched on the different benefits of the cell phone company, he had someone in the audience asked the question the name of cell phone carried. When the audience became aware that the company was Verizon, the person who gave the presentation dropped his microphone as if he was done. However, the person who dropped the mic picked it back made some additional comments about the company and concluded by dropping the mic again. Since that commercial has been aired on television, various entertainers, sports athletics and stars who share their story, when they are done speaking to their audience drop their mic and leave the stage. The dropping of the mic is a signed to all of those who see and listen to them that their story has ended.
The final truth that I would encourage you to know is that the Lord will use the things that happen in our lives for all men to know that the Lord is Mighty and He should be reverence in all the Earth. In Romans 8:28 the word of God says that “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose”. The Lord woke you up this morning because you have a story, you have a testimony to share with someone who is going through what you have been through in your life. Don’t drop your mic but pick it up and share your story with the ones who need to hear it. You asked Elder Strong how do I know when I have dropped my mic in my life. The answer to that question my brother is when the Lord impresses upon your heart to share your testimony but you refused because you say I don’t want people or the Pastor knowing my business. You hold onto a family mindset that says what goes in this house stays with in the house. My sister the Lord wants you to know that just as He brought you through that painful divorce with your husband so that he can use you to bring someone else through their pain and fire.
