You Maybe Wounded but you’re not Broken
He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken (Psalms 34:20).
In the Old Testament, there are several Messianic Prophecies that speak about the suffering, the death and burial of Jesus Christ. One of these Messianic Prophecies is found in Psalms 34:20 written by David who gives us a glimpse of the physical condition of the Messiah final moments on the cross. When criminals were crucified on a cross, to help speed up the process of their death, the person carrying out their crucifixion would break the legs of the person. By breaking the legs of the person being crucified this would make it difficult for the person to elevate himself an upward motion making it difficult for him to breathe. As breathing became harder for the person, the inability to breath would eventually lead to the person suffocating in his own blood and would die.
As the Romans soldiers broke the legs of the two thieves on the cross, next to Jesus, their actions in breaking their legs would hasten their deaths. However, when one of the soldiers came to Jesus and attempted to break his legs, Jesus had already given up the ghost to the Father and died. From this passage of scripture there are three important truths that we as believers must hold onto when we feel that we have been wounded but God’s has said we will not be broken. The first thing we must remember is that Jesus willingly laid His life down to redeem us back to the Father, for no man took His life. The second thing we must remember that when we are going through our crisis, God is able to keep us because the Lord our God is our Keeper. Finally, we must remember that enemy cannot do anything about our position in Christ but he will try to mess with our posture in Christ.
Jesus willingly laid His life down, no man took His life
When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken (John 19:30-33/36).
In the Gospel of John, the word of God let us know that our Lord willing laid His life down so that no man would take His life. The Father was the one who determined the time of His Son’s death and Him taking His final breath. The Father demonstrated to you and me through the crucifixion of His Son that He was and is in control of our lives and sees when are wounded by life. The Lord has seen the events that have happen to us from us losing our jobs, having our car reposed and the eviction notice that was left on our door. He also sees the weapon that the enemy of our soul has formed against us but has still promised that it will not prosper (Isaiah 54:17). However, though things maybe happening to us and we feel that life has wounded our faith, our Father is in control and He will not permit us to be broken. When we surrender our lives to the Father’s will, He will never lose control of the wheel of our life. Our present, our tomorrow and times are in the Father’s hands and He is to wise and great for it to be in the hands of men. Today you may feel that life has wounded you my brother or sister but stand on His promise that He will not allow us to be broken.
Our God is able to keep us in the midst of our crisis for He is our Keeper
As believers in Christ, I believe it is important that we be honest with ourselves and with the Father when we feel we have been wounded. We should not try to mask our pain by saying we are blessed and highly favored to others but inwardly we resist the drawing of God’s Spirit who wants to heal us. Our Lord went through the Garden of Gethsemane and sweat great drops of blood from His face as He prayed and was still kept by the Father. He was betrayed for thirty pieces of silver and abandoned by His disciples, but He was still kept by the Father. He was also beaten or wounded for our transgressions and took our punishment upon Him and was still kept by the Father. The Father kept Jesus because He declared before all Earth and Heaven that He was determined to do the Father’s will and not allow His cup of suffering to pass from Him. The same way that the Father kept His Son through these different things, He can also keep us when we have been wounded and but we are not broken. He is able to keep us financially and He is able to keep our bodies when we go through different types of sicknesses and diseases. Our Help comes from the Lord and not man for He is our Keeper who is able to keep us in the midst of any crisis.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.
He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.
Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand (Psalms 121:1-5).
Do not allow the enemy to break your posture in Christ
At my local church my Senior Pastor Apostle Corbett shared with the congregation in one of her messages, “when we become born again in God’s Kingdom the enemy can do nothing about our position in Christ”. However, “because he can do nothing about our position in Christ, what the enemy attempts to do is mess with our posture in Christ”. In Ephesians 2:5-6 the word of God says “we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus”. These two scriptures speak about our position in Christ which the enemy cannot alter because our names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. However, the enemy wants to mess with our minds that our life will never improve and better days will never come for you or me. You will never be the head and above in your life because things are so jacked up that in eyes of people you are the tail and beneath. But I am here today to declare to you that though you may have been wounded by life, but that does not mean you are broken. If God Almighty did not allow His Son’s legs to be broken, He will not permit the cares of this world to break your confidence in Him.
